The 7 km Backwaterman has been the most traditional long distance race in Austria for 14 years. The unique fjord landscape in the Ottenstein reservoir offers open water swimmers a pure experience of nature. The reservoir is only accessible in a few places and therefore invites you to discover it by boat, canoe and SUP. The journey with the MS Ottenstein to the starting point in Mitterreith is special.

Attention: The capacity of the ship is limited to 100 participants and will be allocated after registration.

The total limit of the 7 km distance is 100 participants.

Accompanying with a canoe is prohibited for safety and competition reasons.

We recommend a buoy system for non-club swimmers.

The 7 km Backwaterman are part of the Austrian Open Water Majors, the 3000 m part of the Volks Cup and the junior competitions are part of the Junior Open Water Cup.

Race briefing will take place via Facebook livestream on Friday 4 p.m., questions can be posted. The live streaming is then available as a video at any time.

Open Water Fair from 7.30 a.m.

Registration: 8.00 - 9.15

Boat departure: 9.30

Start: around 10.15 am Mitterreith bathing area

Depending on the current Covid 19 restrictions, the start takes place in slots or timetrial mode.

Finish closing time 13.45

Award ceremony: approx. 2 pm terrace boat operation
